NEW YORK, July 5 (UPI) -- New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg has ordered a jail named for an ex-police chief who pleaded guilty to having dealings with alleged mobsters to be renamed.

The New York Post reported Bloomberg made the decision Friday night as he watched the New York Yankees and the Mets play at Yankee Stadium with former mayor, Rudy Giuliani.

The jail bore the name of Bernard Kerik, who on Friday pleaded guilty to accepting $165,000 worth of apartment renovations from a construction company with alleged mob links, the newspaper said.

Bloomberg said he's leery of naming things for people in the first place.

"When you name something, you never know what history is going to show," he said. "That's the danger of naming things for people."
