PITTSBURGH, June 18 (UPI) -- An Air Force lieutenant colonel will be reunited with his college ring after a strange series of coincidences, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review said Sunday.

Jason Dudjak, 40, is scheduled to return home to Erie, Pa., Wednesday after a year's duty in Iraq.

He lost his prized ring in 1999. The newspaper said he sold his Ford Mustang shortly thereafter to a woman who kept a ferret as a pet.

About two years ago, the ferret became stuck in a wheel well in the trunk of the Mustang. The woman's friend reached in to pull out the ferret and found the ring, the newspaper said.

The woman tried to find the owner, to no avail, so she pawned the ring. As is standard procedure, a "pawn card" was generated, something police use to track stolen property. A pawn shop clerk did some investigating and found an old phone number for Dudjak's mother-in-law, leading the ring back to its rightful owner.

Dudjak is scheduled to be reunited with his wife, children and his prized class ring Wednesday.
