Devil of a date dawns

  |   June 6, 2006 at 8:29 AM
WASHINGTON, June 6 (UPI) -- Satan worshippers came out in force at the dawning Tuesday of the sixth day of the sixth month of the century's sixth year, a number the Bible deems Satanic.

Numerous heavy metal bands scheduled releases of demonic works for the day, including Slayer, which is releasing "Eternal Pyre" and "Dead Skin Mask," The Washington Post reported.

As well, the remake of the 1976 horror film, "The Omen" scheduled a 06-06-06 opening. The film tells the story of a young boy named Damien who turns out to be the Antichrist.

In the King James Bible version of the Book of Revelation 13:18 says 666 is "the number of the beast," with some believers claiming it is the date Satan will come to Earth to launch Armageddon.

Bob Hainey, chief of communications for the D.C. Lottery said the pick of 666 for Tuesday's draw would likely sell out.

"Even Satan can lose playing the lottery," Hainey told the Post. "If it comes up 660, we're taking his money. Or her money. We don't discriminate."
