CAMDEN, N.J., May 28 (UPI) -- Camden City Councilman Michael McGuire is facing criticism for his attendance record at city council meetings, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.
The two-term councilman has the worst attendance record of any council member, missing 12 of the 17 voting sessions this year, the newspaper said.
McGuire blames his poor attendance on the fact that he has a full-time job with the county outside of the city council. He is also caring for his ill father.
McGuire's critics contend he is shirking his duty to the impoverished city. McGuire says that -- unlike many city officials of the past -- he is not corrupt or negligent, and that the city council suffers from a lack of authority and time in which to complete its duties.
