NORTHBROOK, Ill., May 24 (UPI) -- Drivers in Sioux Falls, S.D., are the safest in the United States, Allstate Insurance Co. found in a survey.

The second "Allstate America's Best Drivers Report" found that the average driver in South Dakota's largest city will be involved in a car crash every 14.3 years -- compared to the national average of once every 10 years. That makes drivers in Sioux Falls 30 percent less likely to have an accident than drivers nationally.

Sioux Falls moved up this year from No. 2 on last year's survey, replacing Cedar Rapids, Iowa, whose drivers slipped to No. 3 this year.

The survey, which ranks the best drivers in the 200 largest cities in America, is based on company claim data.

Iowa, Tennessee and Colorado each placed two cities in the survey's Top 10 safest -- and five of the Top 10 are in America's heartland, Allstate said.

Among cities with populations of more than 1 million, Phoenix was No. 1 this year, with drivers expected to be involved in a car crash every 9.7 years.

Among cities with populations of 500,000 to 1 million, Milwaukee drivers were the safest for the second consecutive year.
