CARDIFF, Wales, May 23 (UPI) -- A Llantwit Fardre, Wales, man denied he intentionally broke the nose of his new neighbor for blaring Beatles music, saying he was only protecting his mother.

Amateur soccer player Michael Payne, 25, did admit spraying partygoers at his next door neighbors home last October, the South Wales Echo reported.

"I know it was childish of me to use the hose," Payne testified at his Cardiff Crown Court hearing, "but I just wanted to upset them because they had upset us" by refusing to turn down the loud music.

Lisa Lampshire, 24, said the Beatles tunes had already been turned down when Payne hosed her parents' guests.

She then confronted Payne's mother, who accused Lampshire of throwing the first punch.

"His mum lunged at me and hit me. I was only restraining her on the car," Lampshire testified.

While Payne said he was defending his mother, Lampshire said Payne deliberately kicked her face a second time.

Lampshire said the kick -- delivered from atop the car -- broke her nose in two places and blackened both eyes.
