LAWRENCE, Mass., May 3 (UPI) -- Thieves who broke into a Lawrence, Mass., apartment found DVDs allegedly showing the renter, James Raboin, raping two girls, leading to Raboin's arrest.
Raboin, 42, was jailed on charges he raped the two girls, now 14 and 15, for up to five years.
Police said the burglars broke into the apartment in late March. A man unconnected to the break-in took the 21 DVDs to police last Friday, evidence that led to the rape charges.
Police Chief John Romero said authorities were unconcerned how they got the evidence.
"We didn't take the videos, they were given to us," Romero told the Boston Herald. "We're within our rights to view them. There's no issue."
But Romero said the "breaking and entering" burglars, who have yet to return a stolen camera and laptop computer, are no heroes.
"The motivation behind the (breaking and entering)," Romero told the newspaper, "was a (breaking and entering)."
