VICENZA, Italy, April 26 (UPI) -- A restaurant in northern Italy is facing a 688 euro, about $853, fine for mistreating lobsters by keeping them on ice -- literally.

Animal activists filed a complaint against the restaurant in Vicenza four years ago, accusing its 34-year-old operator of keeping his crustaceans on ice rather than in water tanks, the Italian news agency ANSA reported.

At the time there were no regulations for keeping live lobsters. Regulations were adopted in 2004.
