The 64-year-old thought the notes were worthless, although the marks could have been exchanged at a bank for euros, the BBC reported. He still had another 30,000 marks in his apartment, police said, as well as about 14,000 euros -- approximately $35,000. Euros replaced Deutschmarks in Germany in 2002, but they can still be exchanged at the bank.
