NEW YORK, April 21 (UPI) -- The jersey that Hank Aaron wore in his rookie year with the Milwaukee Braves goes up for auction in June.

David Kohler of SCP Auctions in California, which is handling the sale jointly with Sotheby's in New York, told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that the Aaron jersey is unique in more ways than one. The legendary slugger changed his number during his first season so the jersey is No. 44 with a shadowy No. 5 still visible.

"We're pretty confident it's the only jersey," Kohler said.

The Aaron jersey will be sold with other sports memorabilia, including a jersey owned by Walter Johnson of the Washington Senators and Babe Ruth's signed contract for his appearance in "The Babe Ruth Story."

The two jerseys are part of the collection of Steve Myland, an Arizona sports enthusiast who has decided it is time to start sell off his memorabilia, Kohler said. He has owned the Aaron jersey since the mid 1980s.

Sotheby's and SCP expect the jersey to go for about $250,000.
