Squawking 'Allah' spares bird the soup pot

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, March 28 (UPI) -- The owner of a 2-year-old rooster that was about to be decapitated for the soup pot in Kyrgyzstan spared the bird's life when it began squawking "Allah."

Local reports said Ibragim Ismatullayev decided the bird was too aggressive, and with his 5-year-old son, set out to slaughter it. But as the man grabbed the bird by its neck, it began squawking, and his son told him to stop.

"Dad, it's saying 'Allah, Allah'," the report said.

The BBC said the Muslim family managed to record the bird's holy Muslim calling on a mobile cell phone.

The news agency also noted a recent report of a lion in another Central Asian republic, Azerbaijan, who was said to have roared "Allah" every time the imam's call to prayer was issued.
