CHICAGO, March 24 (UPI) -- Rarely have road signs caused so much excitement as those along the Dan Ryan Expressway in Illinois showing an incorrect phone number.
Three road signs planted by the Illinois Department of Transportation on an 11-mile stretch of the expressway in Chicago provided a phone number that was supposed to be an alternative route help line during road reconstruction, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.
Instead, calls to 1-800-411-IDOT were directed to a $2.99-a-minute adult chat line that begins: "Hey there, sexy guy, welcome to an exciting new way to go live one-on-one with hot horny girls waiting right now to talk to you."
The correct number is 1-877-411-IDOT.
A supervisor noticed the error on Thursday and the signs were corrected.
"We regret the mistake and apologize if anyone called that number and got information other than what they were seeking," said IDOT spokesman Matt Vanover.
