PROVIDENCE, R.I., March 15 (UPI) -- A would-be bank robber left without getting a penny when a Providence, R.I., teller read his note and ordered him to remove his hood if he wanted service.

Instead of showing more of his face, the robber turned and left the Citizens Bank branch Tuesday.

"It's an unusual occurrence," said Detective Sgt. James Marsland.

"Usually (tellers) just give them the money," Marsland told the Providence (R.I.) Journal -- since banks usually tell employees not to resist robbers.

Police were investigating whether the man in Tuesday's incident was involved in a Monday robbery at another Citizens Bank branch.

In that case, the robber presented a note that said, "Give me all your money or I will hurt you," and got away with $450.

While so-called "note job" bank robberies have become common in Providence, police noted that they solved 14 of 15 cases in 2005.
