LONDON, March 7 (UPI) -- In a bid to remove racial overtones, a British school has reworded a nursery rhyme to "Baa-baa, Rainbow Sheep," puzzling parents, who don't know what that is.

The Times of London reported Tuesday several nursery schools in Oxfordshire have made the switch, despite a similar effort in Birmingham six years ago that was rescinded when black parents laughed it off as "ludicrous."

Stuart Chamberlain, manager of two of the schools, defended the move.

"We have taken the equal opportunities approach to everything we do," he said.

However, the mother of one toddler isn't impressed.

"For people to come along and fiddle with it is ridiculous," she said. "What on earth is a 'rainbow sheep' anyway?"

Gervase Duffield, a Conservative district councilor also dismissed the move.

"Why do people waste time and money doing this sort of thing when there are far more important things to think about when it comes to educating our children?" he said.
