LIVERPOOL, England, Jan. 26 (UPI) -- A young mother in England found out a childhood friend had stolen her identity when her boss did a criminal records check and found a string of convictions.

Samantha Sanderson told the Liverpool Echo that her employer recognized the mistake right away but getting police and the Criminal Records Bureau to acknowledge it has been another matter.

"It's stopped the mortgage going through until I can prove the woman in jail is not me," she said. "But five times I have been on to Merseyside police and the CRB, three times appointments have been made to take my fingerprints and a statement, but they have canceled."

The imposter has a long record, mostly for shoplifting, although she has also been convicted of burglary and theft, theft by deception and handling stolen goods.

Sanderson has an ironclad alibi for at least one of the incidents. At the time of one of the shoplifting arrests, she was getting married.
