Subscribe | UPI Odd Newsletter Subscribe LEESBURG, Va., Jan. 11 (UPI) -- A Virginia judge had little time for a Leesburg, Va., man convicted of stomping a cat to death, and imposed a three-year suspended prison sentence. Circuit Court Judge Howe Brown said he no doubt that 39-year-old Peter Landrith maliciously killed the 14-year-old cat named Luke in October 2004. Advertisement He imposed the suspended jail sentence, and also five years of probation, under which Landrith is required to maintain steady employment, must undergo a psychiatric evaluation and may never own animals. Landrith said his actions were a desperate attempt to stop the de-clawed cat from biting his leg, The Washington Post reported. The case attracted attention from animal advocates around the world. Commonwealth's Attorney James Plowman told the newspaper he received at least 150 e-mail messages, faxes and handwritten notes praising the conviction last October and urging a stiff penalty for Landrith.
