NEW YORK, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- The U.S. woman, who helped develop the Roomba -- the disc-shape vacuum that can fit under furniture -- was inspired by her mother.
Helen Greiner says when she studied computer science and mechanical engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology she often talked to her mother how robots would be key to space exploration, the New York Times reported Saturday.
"That's great, honey, but what I really want is a robot that can clean hard-to-reach places," she said her mother told her.
Greiner, co-founder and chairwoman of iRobot, has sold 1.2 million units of the Roomba in the three years it has been on the market, Good Housekeeping reported.
The magazine named Greiner as entrepreneur of the year.
