LONDON, Nov. 27 (UPI) -- "Skinny-fit" jeans, also dubbed drainpipe jeans, need such a trimmer-than-ever physique that many U.S. and European women have lost weight.

Model Claudia Schiffer, is wearing a size six pair of the new jeans, when previously she wore jeans size eight, the Sunday Telegraph reported.

"The current fashions are especially unforgiving on legs," says Sara Buys, the fashion features editor of Harpers & Queen.

"You definitely need a good pair of pins (legs), perhaps the cruelest of ironies as that is one of the hardest places to lose weight. Sample sizes (used in magazines) used to be size eight -- now they are a six. It's hard to pull off this look: you do need to be skinny."

Lainey Sheridan-Young, who runs Lainey Fashion Sales, which sells Sass & Bide (jeans) in Europe, says many customers have lost weight as well.

"Our figures do show that the average customer has dropped just over a size in a season," she said.
