ADELAIDE, Australia, Nov. 21 (UPI) -- An Australian model jailed in Indonesia on a drug charge says her conversion to Islam was genuine even though she left prison in jeans and a tank top.

Michelle Leslie appeared in court wearing a hijab, a headscarf, and clothing that enveloped her from head to foot, The Australian reported.

Leslie spent three months behind bars after she was caught with two tablets of Ecstasy during a raid on a Bali nightclub. She said that a friend gave her the drug because she had lost the Ritalin she took for anxiety.

"Religion and her beliefs are a very personal thing to her," Sean Mulcahy, the model's spokesman, said. "If Michelle has offended anyone, she apologizes."

Keysar Trad of the Islamic Friendship Association of Australia said Leslie should be given the benefit of the doubt, since many Muslim women have been models. He said converts often need time to accept all the tenets of the religion.
