This year's top sellers appear to be Star Wars costumes, which are available in pet versions for the first time.

Shari Maxwell of Annie's Costumes said the top three are Yoda Dog, Darth Vader Dog and Princess Leia Dog. They are followed by Superdog, Batdog and Wonder Woman Dog.

While cat costumes are understandably less popular than those for dogs --given that felines have less tolerance for human eccentricities -- Pirate Cat ranks in 7th place and Queen Cat is 10th.

Wedding and fairy princess costumes are reliable year-round dog outfits.

"I can't tell you how many people tell us they're getting married and their dog is their best man," Maxwell said.
