LONDON, Oct. 13 (UPI) -- A London company that has supplied props for all the James Bond movies has returned a ceremonial sword looted from Ethiopia in the 19th century.

The return was arranged by Richard Pankhurst, a campaigner for the return of Ethiopian artifacts, The Scotsman reported. Pankhurst, son of the famous political activist and feminist Sylvia Pankhurst, has lived in Ethiopia for 20 years and teaches at the University of Addis Ababa.

Pankhurst learned during dinner with a friend that the 3-foot-long sword had been on display for years at Bapty, a prop house that supplies arms and military equipment to the film and TV industry.

"We explained the position to the manager, who said that he knew that the sword had been taken from Ethiopia, and so he simply handed it over," Pankhurst said.

The sword and other items were stolen by British troops after their victory over the Ethiopians in 1868 in the Battle of Maqdala. Pankhurst said a number of artifacts remain in Britain, including a gold crown and chalice and Christian religious objects.
