80 percent plan to hand out candy

VIENNA, Va., Oct. 9 (UPI) -- About 80 percent of U.S. adults plan to hand out candy to trick-or-treaters this Halloween and most plan to snag a few treats for themselves as well.

The National Confectioners Association, a trade association representing the candy industry, found in a survey:

-- Plastic pumpkins with handles remain the favored trick-or-treating container, followed by plastic bags and pillow cases.

-- 35 percent of adults plan to hand out their favorite candy; 21 percent plan to buy what is on sale; and 16 percent plan on buying their children's favorites.

-- Almost half of those planning to hand out candy said they decide how many pieces each trick-or-treater received, while 40 percent allow trick-or-treaters to make their own selections.

-- Almost half of all parents have a plan to allocate their children a few pieces of candy per day after Halloween; 31 percent plan to have their kids share in the decision; and 8 percent planned to let co-workers reap the benefits of their trick-or-treating children.
