Cross-country drive on 2 gallons of gas
WINDSOR, Nova Scotia, Oct. 6 (UPI) -- Canada Thursday reversed its decision to bar convicted felon Martha Stewart from attending a Pumpkin Regatta in Windsor, Nova Scotia.
Stewart announced on her syndicated talk show "Martha" Wednesday she had been denied a visa to attend the pumpkin festival and parade celebrating Canadian Thanksgiving Sunday.
The government's refusal to let Stewart into Canada because of her conviction for lying about a stock sale drew fire from Conservative Foreign Affairs Chief Stockwell Day.
"I have no fear of her burying us with her prison poncho throwing a homemade pie," Day said. "She's no threat to Canada. They should let her in."
Canada's CTV said organizers of the regatta reported Thursday Stewart was granted a temporary visa allowing her to cross the border and race across the lake paddling a giant pumpkin.
Stewart still must get permission from her U.S. probation officer to leave the country, however.
