PERTH, Australia, Sept. 22 (UPI) -- A tiny chalk sketch that has been hanging in a Perth, Australia, home for generations could turn out to be one of the most significant art finds ever.
The unsigned sketch of an old man's face is being studied as a possible work by Leonardo da Vinci, the Sydney Daily Telegraph reported Thursday. If it is confirmed, it would be worth millions of dollars.
The sketch in a "tacky little frame" was referred to Perth art dealer Paul Swain by the Art Gallery of Western Australia last week, the newspaper said.
Swain plans to meet with experts at Britain's Tate Gallery, then have the paper carbon-dated to see if it may have been drawn by the Renaissance Italian master.
The family who owns the sketch says it was brought from Britain to Australia by relatives early in the last century.
