WACO, Texas, Sept. 21 (UPI) -- Baylor University has refused to serve Starbucks coffee in a company cup that features a quote from a gay author about being gay.

The Daily Texan reports 500 cups were pulled by dining services because of an Armistead Maupin quote printed on it as part of a Starbucks marketing campaign.

Other Starbucks cup quotes are from people like football stars and comedian Al Franken.

The quote in question is: "My only regret is that I repressed it for so long. I surrendered my youth to the people I feared when I could have been out there loving someone. Don't make that mistake for yourself. Life's too damn short."

Baylor dining services manager Linda Ricks said the cups were pulled out of respect for the university's Baptist affiliation and that religion's stance on homosexuality.

Ricks said it was the decision by dining services, not the university administration, to take the cups out of circulation.
