DECATUR, Ill., Sept. 8 (UPI) -- An anonymous Illinois donor has replaced a Louisiana woman's treasured wedding ring, lost when she fled her home ahead of Hurricane Katrina's floodwaters.

Larry Curtis and Sherry Craigie-Curtis left their suburban New Orleans home hours before the storm hit Aug. 29, and made the long trip to Decatur, Ill, to take shelter with Curtis' mother. In the rush, Craigie-Curtis left her ring on her dresser, the Decatur Herald & Review said.

During a local television interview, Craigie-Curtis said she knew her house was lost forever, and that she felt sick about losing her ring.

After the show, an anonymous caller contacted the Red Cross, whose members got a description of the ring and the woman's size from her husband.

Wednesday afternoon, the couple was summoned to the Red Cross office, and both were overwhelmed and unable to speak when they were given the gift, the report said.

Caseworker Diana Inman said she broke the silence by telling Curtis: "You need to get that out and put it where it belongs."
