REGINA, Saskatchewan, Sept. 3 (UPI) -- Saskatchewan, the Canadian province known for being "hardest to spell but easiest to draw," celebrates its 100th birthday this weekend.

The parties ranged from Saskatoon to Afghanistan, the Toronto Globe and Mail reported. Flags, pins and Saskatoon juice were shipped to the 10 to 12 soldiers from the province stationed at Camp Neilsen in Kabul after they asked about having a party.

The Canadian government adopted laws creating the provinces of Saskatchewan and Alberta on Sept. 1, 1905. Sept. 4 is Saskatchewan's official anniversary.

On Friday, the Saskatchewan legislature was designated an official historic site with the flag from Camp Julien hanging over it.

This Sunday, simultaneous fireworks are scheduled to go off in 15 towns across the province. Alberta put on a similar display last Thursday.

"Our fireworks are much better than Alberta's," one organizer told the Globe and Mail. "Have we bragged to you about them yet?"
