KANSAS CITY, Mo., Aug. 26 (UPI) -- Robbers not only stole a string of catfish from four people fishing in a Kansas City lake -- they shot a fisherman who tried to get his catch back.
"It's probably the weirdest robbery I've ever been sent to," Detective Brian Davis told the Kansas City Star. "It's hard to believe someone shot a person over some fish."
The victims spent Wednesday evening fishing in Troost Lake. As they were leaving, a man grabbed the string of 12 or 15 fish.
When one of the men pursued the thief, he was shot in the thigh.
Shirley Coppage, one of the fishing party, said she could not understand the crime.
"After stealing all that fish, they would have to clean them all. That's a lot of work," she said.
