More British drink now

LONDON, Aug. 24 (UPI) -- More British citizens are consuming alcohol while less French and Germans are drinking, a marketing study shows.

A report by the research firm Mintel shows 88 percent of Britons purchased alcohol in 2004, 5 percent higher than in 1999, Sky News reports.

The percentage of French and Germans purchasing alcohol in that time declined.

Overall sales are going up in both Britain and France.

British sales jumped 15 percent since 1999, French sales shot up by 7 percent.

Overall alcohol sales in Germany declined by nearly 4 percent.
