FOREST PARK, Ga., Aug. 10 (UPI) -- A Lawrenceville, Ga., animal activist was arrested on a charge of animal cruelty for leaving her dog in her car 2 1/2 hours while she was in a meeting.

Patricia Siems, president of All Dog and Cat Rescue Angels, was in Forest Park, Ga., Tuesday to attend a meeting of the Georgia Companion Animal Advisory Board.

Siems checked on her pet bull terrier, Hank, about every 45 minutes, gave him water and rolled the windows down, friend Patty Dougherty told the Atlanta Constitution.

However, Siems found Department of Agriculture workers at her car when she got out of the meeting, which they also attended.

A Department of Agriculture inspector said the temperature inside the car was 103 degrees.

"He is fine, believe me," Siems told reporters. "I know my dogs."

Siems was charged with animal cruelty and, if convicted, could lose her shelter license.

Dougherty praised Siems' love of animals but also conceded, "This is pretty bad judgment on her part."
