Sort of like 'pin-the-tail' only different

SANTA CLARITA, Calif., July 24 (UPI) -- The Valencia High School football team raises funds with a variation on Pin the Tail on the Donkey, but the donkeys are live -- and they're doing the aiming.

A lineup of donkeys -- Blue, Jane and Tigerlily -- took the field in Santa Clarita, Calif., Saturday for Donkey Derby 2005. The field was marked off with 4 feet by 4 feet squares, and spectators were watching to see which squares the beasts would mark with the end product of their digestive process.

For a $5 dollar donation, fans could choose a square, and whoever had the square that got hit first by some donkey business stood to win $1,000. There were lesser cash prizes for whoever held title to squares where donkeys took a little longer to get to work.

The Valencia High boosters almost certainly had enough money to cover the winnings, reported the Santa Clarita (Calif.) Signal -- they had sold more than 3,100 tickets by the time the donkeys "hit the field," so to speak.
