U.S. nudists seeking younger members

ALLENTOWN, Pa., July 18 (UPI) -- A full-out push is on by nudists in the United States to attract younger members as receding and graying hair are becoming more visible.

"It's something we are really focusing on," said Carolyn Hawkins, a spokeswoman for the American Association for Nude Recreation of Kissimmee, Fla. "Many of us have been in this a long time, and you do see our members getting older."

Hawkins made the remark after some 3,000 nudists converged last week for a convention and festival at Sunny Rest Lodge, a 190-acre resort in Carbon County, Pa.

For the past year, Steve Vickers, director of AANR's youth division, has visited colleges and universities, speaking to student groups to recruit younger members, the Allentown (Pa.) Morning Call said.

Vickers said younger people are now signing up for the group's cruises to the Caribbean and Mediterranean, and for the "Nudie Blues" rock concerts held annually in Georgia.
