The experiment, using Segway scooters is a first in France. But it takes a page from a similar effort in Atlanta, where scootered police cruise along at 12 miles an hour. Advertisement "People criticize us for patrolling in cars," explained Philippe Pommier, eastern division head of Lyon's police station. "With the Segway, policemen keep in contact with the population even as they expand their scope of action."
