LOS ANGELES, July 3 (UPI) -- A U.S. culture historian who says that Americans are losing their sense of pop cultural history suggests visiting places of interest while traveling.

"People need to recognize how special America is in terms of what we've accomplished in just over 200 years," said culture historian Chris Epting.

"I don't think we always get credit for being the birthplace of things like rock-n-roll and hamburgers and Elvis and Marilyn -- and the places are out there that celebrate and acknowledge these events."

Epting suggests going to a Web site hamptonlandmarks.com, which is something he worked on in conjunction with Hampton Inn Hotels.

"We kind of supercharged it with these road trips that people can go -- they're all electronically mapped and people can go print them, it doesn't cost anything to get these great trips printed out, and I think that's an easy place to start," Epting said.
