Cell phone light helps find lost hiker

SANTA ROSA, Calif., May 25 (UPI) -- A 42-year-old hiker lost in California's Shiloh Park near Santa Rosa, used the light on her cell phone to guide a helicopter search party to her location.

Kathy Karlen of Larkfield, Calif., got lost while hiking in the park and called the sheriff's dispatcher Monday night, KPIX-TV, San Francisco, reported.

Karlen stayed in communication with the helicopter crew who instructed her to turn her cell phone light upward toward the chopper.

After a few minutes, the crew spotted Karlen by using night vision goggles. The woman was not injured.
