Subscribe | UPI Odd Newsletter Subscribe BURLESCOMBE, England, May 10 (UPI) -- A leather shoe thought to be at least 2,000 years old and the oldest in Britain has been unearthed at an English quarry. The Iron Age relic was discovered in a hollowed tree trunk at Whiteball Quarry, near Wellington, Somerset, the BBC reported Tuesday. Advertisement Archaeologists said the shoe was the equivalent of a U.S. size 11 and was so well-preserved, stitch and lace holes were still visible in the leather. It has been sent for conservation and will likely be displayed at Royal Albert Memorial Museum, Exeter. A team from Exeter Archaeology, led by Stephen Reed, dug up the shoe when they were excavating a Bronze Age site at Town Farm, Burlescombe. "As far as we know, this is the oldest shoe ever found in the U.K.," Reed said.
