William Roge, a 23-year veteran of the force and the commander of Transit District 3 in Washington Heights, shot himself with his off-duty .38 revolver Monday before he secured his 9 mm in his holster, the New York Post reported. Advertisement Doctors at St. Luke's Hospital removed the bullet, which did not strike any vital organs. "It was a miracle that he was not more badly hurt," said one surgeon.
