MILWAUKEE, April 29 (UPI) -- Five Wisconsin residents who failed to pay for the Girl Scout cookies they ordered are being sued in small-claims court by the Great Blue Heron Council.

A spokeswoman for the Waukesha-based council said the delinquents placed cookie orders ranging from $301 to $1,485 in 2003 and 2004.

"Please note that non-payment for Girl Scout cookies represents fraud," said a form letter that preceded legal action. "We are willing to work with you to set up a repayment plan, however, you must call within the next two weeks to make these arrangements."

The Girl Scouts have been getting tougher with people who owe money for cookies or pay with rubber checks, but lawsuits filed against two couples and three women are considered a last resort, an official told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

A portion of the money raised by cookies sales goes to Girl Scout troops for programs, but that money can not be transferred until the cookies have been paid for.
