MIAMI, April 26 (UPI) -- The Florida Highway Patrol has rejected an applicant to join the organization after he led troopers on a high speed chase on his motorcycle.

Twenty-four-year-old David Carpenter was set to take his physical exam next week for the FHP, but that was canceled after he was arrested for fleeing from troopers, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported Tuesday.

"We told him don't bother showing up," said FHP spokesman Lt. Julio Pajon after officers arrested Carpenter Monday. "Getting arrested is an automatic disqualifier."

Troopers had previously saw the motorcyclist speeding through traffic at speeds of up to 140 mph and at least twice he almost caused two wrecks involving troopers, according to Pajon.

The troopers were ready for the speeding motorcyclist Monday with an airplane and troopers stationed strategically along the highway.

The speeding motorcyclist outran the troopers on the ground, but the airplane followed Carpenter to his home.

When troopers arrived, Carpenter pretended to be washing his car, but his dog barked at the officers and dislodged a vertical blind that exposed the motorcycle in the man's bedroom.
