LOS ANGELES, April 20 (UPI) -- A Superior Court judge in Los Angeles fined a juror $100 for yawning after being detained for two hours in a jury assembly room.

"You yawned rather audibly there. As a matter of fact, it was to the point that it was contemptuous," Superior Court Judge Craig Veals told the unidentified juror according to courtroom transcripts, the Los Angeles Times reported.

"Your boredom just cost you $1,000. ... I'm finding you in contempt," Veals shot back at the juror after he said, "I'm sorry, but I'm really bored."

Veals reduced the fine to $100 after the juror explained he had had two recent surgeries on his tailbone and was recovering from pneumonia.
