COPPER MOUNTAIN, Colo., April 7 (UPI) -- Three skiers have been charged with triggering avalanches while skiing in an off-limits area at a Colorado resort.

KMGH-TV in Denver reports that two of the three are employees of the Copper Mountain Ski Resort.

The three face misdemeanor charges of violating the Skier Safety Act. They allegedly went past ropes set up to mark safe areas in the Breckinridge Ski Area and triggered one avalanche.

They called in to report the avalanche, saying that they were all right. The television station reports that a Copper Mountain snow technician saw them set off a second avalanche while he was watching the first through a telescope.

The ski patrol found the three apparently hiding in the woods.
