NEW YORK, April 7 (UPI) -- A New York judge has sentenced to prison a man who racked up 20 arrests for taking or attempting to take subways, railroad cars and buses on joyrides.

Darius McCollum, 39, got three years in prison but should be released by Christmas because of time already served, the New York Post reported Thursday.

"I just love trains," he said in June after being arrested for allegedly trying to take a locomotive for a spin.

Upon his release he plans to move in with his family in North Carolina, where there are no subways, McCollum's lawyer said.

"This is a real opportunity for him to get well and to move on," he said.

McCollum's family blames his Asperger's syndrome.
