Passengers on fuel-leak plan may be sued

SHARJAH, United Arab Emirates, April 4 (UPI) -- Some British travelers could face lawsuits after nearly 300 people refused to get on an aircraft with a fuel leak at Sharjah airport, United Arab Emirates.

The passengers were let off of the Thailand-England Phuket Air flight while the plane refueled in UAE. Take-off was aborted three times after the plane refueled.

The flight had reportedly erupted into a panic when "gallons" of fuel "spewed" from the plane's wing, witnesses told the BBC.

However, the airline said there was no danger, and has threatened legal action against passengers who they claim caused panic.

Gordon MacFarland, Phuket Air's sales and marketing manager in Britain, said some of the passengers' claims were "crazy."

"Are passengers really qualified to know what's going on? There was no danger to passengers," he said.

Town doesn't give thanks for wild turkeys

ELKHART, Ind., April 4 (UPI) -- A group of wild turkeys has left a fowl taste in the mouths of some Elkhart, Ind., residents by harassing children on a school playground.

The principal of Jimtown North Elementary School said the birds occasionally frighten curious students who walk close to take a gander.

"When the kids get too close, they ruffle their feathers and gobble at them and then charge. It kind of scares the kids. They think they're going to be chased or pecked," Principal Alan Metcalfe told WBST-TV, South Bend, Ind.

The administrator said he also fears the land fowl could cause a traffic accident.

"The turkeys have been in the middle of the roads. Eventually one of them might get hit," Metcalfe said.

The Humane Society of Elkhart County flocked to the scene, but thus far they've had no luck with their wild turkey chase.

"It's not very easy. They run quite a bit faster than we do, and they fly. If you try to get them cornered, they can fly up on a roof or up in a tree," said Jeff Wogoman, an animal control officer with the Humane Society.

James Earl Ray autopsy tape to go on eBay

MEMPHIS, April 4 (UPI) -- The brother of Martin Luther King's supposed assassin announced Monday the placement of his brother's autopsy tape on online auction site eBay.

Jerry Ray, brother of James Earl Ray, made the announcement during a news conference at The Civil Rights Museum in Memphis, Tenn.

Ray has long maintained the bullet fired from his brother's rifle did not kill King, and he has spent seven years fighting in court to gain possession of the rifle to conduct tests. The State of Tennessee passed legislation in 1998 to retain ownership of the rifle and place it in the Civil Rights Museum.

The proceeds from the tape's sale will go to fund Ray's ongoing legal battle.

The Conspiracy Museum of Dallas, Texas, held a simultaneous news conference to announce its intention to purchase the rifle and conduct additional tests.

Memphis Judge Joe Brown said in July 1997 test data showed bullets fired from James Earl Ray's rifle did not match the bullet that killed King. Further tests were planned, but never conducted.
