PRINCETON, N.J., March 14 (UPI) -- Poker, once reserved for middle-aged men, is taking U.S. college campuses by storm, fueled by televised poker championships and online poker games.

Michael Sandberg, 22, a political science major at Princeton University, has made an income of $120,000 playing poker on the Internet and in Atlantic City, N.J., the New York Times reported Monday.

While Sandberg may be at the high end of poker winnings, the card game has become a hot hobby on university campuses with many college organizations sponsoring poker tournaments.

"Whatever amount you can think of, it's probably been lost or won," said Vik Bellapravalu, a Princeton junior.

But Sandberg considers poker a job not a hobby.

"I'm playing this game, treating it like a job," he said, adding he is no longer considering law school.

However, with the glamorization of gambling on television, Keith S. Whyte, executive director of the National Council on Problem Gambling, says there is a real danger of gambling addiction on college campuses.
