Anti-underwear bill introduced in Florida

TALLAHASSEE, Fla., March 14 (UPI) -- A Florida legislator known as a spiffy dresser has introduced a bill making it against the law to expose underpants in a public place.

The maximum penalty would be 10 days in jail under the bill introduced by state Sen. Gary Siplin, the Tampa Tribune reported Monday.

"We have to change the way men, especially young men, dress," the Orlando Democrat said. "It may not go anywhere. I may not push it. But I had to file something."

Siplin, well-known at the state Capitol in Tallahassee for his sartorial standards, said he gets frequent complaints from parents about young men who wear their trousers below waist level.

"I had an Afro when I was growing up," he said. "We had some things. But showing your underwear? That doesn't look good. That ain't cool."

A similar bill was passed by the Virginia House last month, but killed in a Senate committee.
