AUBURN, Kan., March 3 (UPI) -- To salute Dr. Seuss on his 101st birthday, students at a Kansas elementary school dressed up funny and sat down to a lunch of green eggs and ham.
Helen Kline, librarian at Auburn Elementary, wanted to do something special at the school to promote reading and celebrate the birth of Theodor Seuss Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss. He was born March 2, 1904, in Springfield, Mass. He died in 1991.
Principal Mark Koepsel read Dr. Seuss' book "Green Eggs and Ham" to students, the Topeka Capital-Journal said. The book's message, he told them, is that people should try new things. And, on Wednesday, they did.
The kids wore crazy clothing and wacky hairstyles and while wary of their unusual fare, found they liked it. As one youngster put it, "They taste just like eggs."
