FRANKFURT, Germany, Feb. 24 (UPI) -- Lufthansa may file suit against the German government for losses caused by flight delays that resulted from Air Force One's landing in Frankfurt.

Lufthansa said it lost millions of dollars as a result of the cancellation of 77 short- and medium-distance flights Wednesday, affecting some 5,000 passengers, in accommodating U.S. President George Bush's plane, the BBC reports.

Lufthansa accounts for six of every 10 flights at Frankfurt.

"We are doing research into the possibilities we have," Michael Lamberty, a Lufthansa spokesman told the BBC.

"We are checking if there is action to be taken and in which courts it could be taken."

Lamberty explained the German airline was not planning to pursue a lawsuit against the air traffic controllers' organizations or the airport. Instead, they were hoping to see if they could sue German federal agencies.

Ninety-two outgoing flights and 86 incoming flights were delayed about an hour due to Bush's visit to Mainz, Germany.
