Ohio school expels teen for hairdo

ASHTABULA, Ohio, Feb. 22 (UPI) -- High school officials in Ashtabula, Ohio, have expelled 9th grader Josh Pauley because of his new haircut -- a Mohawk that's dyed red, WEWS-TV reported.

Conneaut High School Principal John Plosila said he gave Pauley a chance to change his hairdo, but the student refused.

The youngster said he believes he is a victim of discrimination: "So many other people wear bare midriffs and mini-skirts and tattoos. "They have facial piercings and holes in their ears that are big. And they send me home for my hair. I don't think it's right."

While Pauley's parents also do not like the haircut, his step-mother said he has a right to be an individual.

The parents were shopping for an attorney and an online school in which to enroll the youth who was expelled for the rest of the school year, WEWS reported.
