Last month, Councilwoman Pam Holm complained the system had purchased 12 copies of porn star Jenna Jameson's autobiography, "How to Make Love Like a Porn Star: A Cautionary Tale," which contains lurid confessions and some nude photos.
White said he did not order the books moved to "closed stacks" at the central library, but he did ask the library's interim director to use "common sense" and was under the impression she ordered the book to the private stacks. Books there are available for browsing or check-out, but patrons must request them specifically, the Houston Chronicle said.
"I think it should have never been bought, but that's my opinion," White said.
None of the squabbling over censorship or morality has had much practical effect, as the books have been checked out for months and there is a long waiting list, the newspaper said.
