TORONTO, Feb. 8 (UPI) -- After 26 years of frying nearly 2 million orders of McDonalds french fries, an 80-year-old Toronto woman is hanging up her apron, the Toronto Sun reports.

At the age of 54, Catherine Wilson was one of the first employees recruited when the McDonald's franchise opened its doors in January 1979, but she decided her 80th birthday Monday was the right time to step away from the hot fat.

She said the job helped put her daughter through school and she still has her first paycheck -- she was making $3 an hour.

Longtime customers, many of the restaurant's 60 employees and McDonalds Canada officials were on hand to celebrate her birthday and retirement, although she sent a wave of dismay through corporate officials when asked how many fries she'd eaten in her career.

"I won't eat any fries -- I'm not allowed greasy food," she said.
